Cutting Horse Futurity

presented by Wrangler
In a cutting horse competition, each horse and rider is faced with a herd of cattle and two and a half minutes on the clock. Working together, they must select a single cow to move out of; or ‘cut’, from of the herd. Once the cow has been selected and removed from the herd the rider drops their reins, saying to the horse, "It's up to you - take it from here!" The pair must then demonstrate their ability, as a team, to keep the cow from returning to the herd. The horse uses great strength and agility as it mimics the movements of the cow, always staying one hoof ahead. Once the cow has lost interest and looks away, the team may re-enter the herd for a fresh cow to cut.
Years of careful training are invested into each cutting horse. Their natural instincts to herd cattle, or what we like to call “cow sense”, are fine-tuned to allow them to become true athletes of the arena and the stars of our show.

Awards
Futurity: $60,000 added purse (pro-rated Open and Non Pro).
In the event of a tie for Champion, the Champion and award recipient will be determined by either a ride off, or coin toss, either at the discretion of the competitors. Prize money will be split.
In the event of a tie for Reserve Champion, the Reserve Champion and award recipient will be decided on by the highest aggregate from the go rounds and the finals scores. Prize money will be split.
55 Plus (Rider) – Division Award:
These awards are based on the rider, not on the horse. Competitors that are 55 years of age or older as of October 10th, 2018 are eligible. Competitors must enter the 55 Plus (Rider) Division on the entry form to be eligible for prizing. Competitors wanting to participate in this division need only enter once as scores will be tabulated based on the rider rather than the horse. Therefore, each time a 55 Plus Division rider enters multiple horses they increase their own opportunity.
The eligible rider with the highest score in the Non-Pro Futurity, Non-Pro Classic Challenge and/or Non-Pro Derby in the 1st Go's will win the high point 55 Plus Division.
Should there be a tie for Grand Champion of the 55 Plus Division, the competitor with the most money won in their 1st go in one class will break the tie; if a tie still exists then a draw will be held by the committee.
