The Calgary Stampede is proud to support the future of rodeo by showcasing young talent in the novice and junior rodeo events. This year we will be offering Novice Saddle Bronc, Novice Bareback and Junior Steer Riding as events during our regular afternoon rodeo.

Entries and payouts will be handled by the Calgary Stampede.

Rules:

Novice Events: Saddle Bronc Riding

  1. There will be two Go-Rounds (back to back) July 5 - 10 (slack 8:00am July 6) and Finals - Top three (3) in each event, Thursday, July 11. A maximum of thirty will be accepted.
  2. Contestants will be drawn randomly.
  3. Contestants must hold a current Amateur Rodeo, High School Rodeo or Collegiate Rodeo Card or a Pro permit.
  4. Contestants for the Novice Saddle Bronc Riding and Novice Bareback Riding must be at least 16 years of age on January 1, 2019 and under 21 years of age on December 31, 2018
  5. NSB & NBB Purse - $5,600 each - $500 held out for Finals.

Novice Events: Bareback Riding

Junior Event: Steer Riding

There will be two Tiers of Junior Steer Riding.

The more advanced riders (limited to twenty five) will compete in one Go-Round July 7 - 11 and Finals - Top six Friday, July 12.  Ties will be broken by a draw.  Only qualified rides will advance to Finals Purse $3,000 - $500 held out for Finals.

The remaining Steer Riders (limited to twenty-five) will compete on Saturday, July 6, 8:00am with the top six advancing to a Finals in the Saturday, July 6 performance.  Ties will be broken by a draw.  Only qualified rides will advance to the finals.  Purse $2,000 - $500 held out for Finals

  1. Contestants must hold a current Amateur Rodeo, High School Rodeo Card or a Pro permit.
  2. Contestants for the Junior Steer Riding must be a least 12 years of age on January 1, 2019 and under 15 years of age on December 31, 2018.
  3. Helmets and protective vests are mandatory.

 

Minimum Requirements

Regardless of age, there is a minimum standard that each contestant (NSB, NBB, JSR) must meet to be eligible to compete in the Stampede Rodeo.  Each contestant must have a membership with a rodeo association as noted above and provide proof of three qualified rides in a Canadian Professional Rodeo Association Rodeo or four qualified rides in at a recognized rodeo association.  Each contestant must have their own gear.

 

Important

Should there be a tie for the Championship in Novice Saddle Bronc, Novice Bareback or Junior Steer Riding after completion of the Final, tied contestants will be named Co-Champions.

Entries and payouts will be handled by the Calgary Stampede. All payout cheques will be mailed. 

All entries will be made available online: Wednesday, May 22 at 8:00am MDT through Thursday, May 23 at 4:00 p.m. MDT (Novice and Steer Riding Only). 

Once entries are completed and vetted, all contestants over 16 years of age and a parent or guardian of contestants under 16 years of age will be required to sign off on the Calgary Stampede Novice Events & Junior Steer Riding Animal Care Code of Conduct.
